Dry needling is a technique used by therapists to treat muscular pain and dysfunction. It involves inserting thin needles into trigger points, which can cause pain and restrict movements. The goal is to release tension and promote healing by stimulating blood flow and triggering the bodys natural pain-relieving mechanism.
Side effects of dry needling varies from person to person however may include:
-
Soreness: you may get some soreness at the needling sites for a short period of time after the treatment
-
Bruising: some people may develop a bruise at the insertion site of the needle.
-
Fatigue: can feel tired or drained temporarily after a session
-
Bleeding: can occur at needles insertion site. If bleeding occurs you are more likely to get bruising
It is important to discuss any concerns you may have regarding dry needling. Your therapist may offer this treatment to you even if you have booked for something else as they may feel you will benefit from this. If you do not want it or have a fear of needles please discuss this with the therapist and they will find alternative treatment for you.
